OFFICIAL OPENING
FRIDAY 30th April 2021
On Friday 30th April 2021, we welcomed Archdeacon Jennifer and Rosie Cooper MP to the official opening of the Up Holland Community Hub.
The event started at St Thomas the Martyr Primary School, where our guests were welcomed by Rob Foster, The Hub Food Bank coordinator and some of the volunteers who help run the food bank. Archdeacon Jennifer and Rosie Cooper spoke about the sadness of having to have food banks in our country but went on to say how important they are to help and support those who need to use them. They also expressed their support for the Hub food bank and its work of support.
Pupils from Up Holland High School and
St Thomas the Martyr Primary School joined forces in a joint choir and sang, to the delight of everyone there. They also managed to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Headteacher from STM School, Carl Roscoe!
We then moved on to St Thomas the Martyr Church and were welcomed by people from all three churches as well as representatives from local schools and the wider community. After speeches and words of encouragement, Archdeacon Jennifer spoke about Jesus coming to meet us where we are and empowering us to share God’s love with those around us. She then prayed for the work of the Hub and for God’s blessing upon the Hub’s work and all involved in it.
We all moved into STM Church to enjoy refreshments at Becket’s Café whilst Rosie Cooper MP and Archdeacon Jennifer visited the Post Office and made use of its facilities!
A great start to a our Community Hub.
