OVERVIEW OF ROLE

An opportunity has arisen for a well-organised, self-motivated independent worker to co-ordinate and develop the various activities organised by Up Holland Community Hub (hereafter stated as ‘the Hub’), which is based within the 700-year-old St Thomas the Martyr church, the parish church of the historic village of Up Holland.

We are looking for someone with excellent people, administrative, and management skills to co-ordinate, promote and develop events and activities at the Hub and administer the associated processes, communications and record-keeping of various events and activities at the Hub.

There is a Hub Leadership team consisting of volunteers from the Hub and church, and the successful applicant will be expected to report to this group and support the on-going development within the community.

Working time and hours can be flexible with the agreement with the leadership team.

ABOUT UP HOLLAND COMMUNITY HUB

Our mission: to provide a safe place where all are welcome and valued without condition, where we strive to serve the community, grow together and create a sense of belonging. We believe that the Church and the wider community working together in partnership through the Hub is key to ensuring that St Thomas The Martyr church continues to be a place for everyone today.

The Hub provides activities, events, and groups for a wide range of people, and a welcoming, warm space for all. The Hub is mainly run by volunteers, this includes the Leadership Team, Post Office staff, Becket’s Café staff, Foodbank as well as the leaders of the activity groups. Activities include arts, crafts, well-being sessions, bingo and regular live music events. There are also larger events linked to church such as activities for families during school holidays and church festivals. The Hub and church provide a warm, welcoming place and the café provides a weekly community lunch and free food soup and a hot drink.

Funding has been secured to pay for a role for 12 months with effect from 1st May 2024. One of the tasks for the successful application will be to source additional funding to increase income and support activities at the Hub and to fund the post after March 2025.

REQUIRED SKILLS

As most staff who work in the Hub are volunteers, effective influencing and communication skills are essential. The successful applicant should be able to provide examples of experience and success of managing people in various roles. They will also be required to have very good administrative skills, be IT literate, highly organised and able to work independently.

HUB DEVELOPMENT

The Hub has an excellent relationship with Social Wellbeing CIC, who run a number of the arts, crafts and wellbeing activities in the church building. The successful applicant will be expected to establish and develop community relationships further, including with other local charities, support service organisations and local schools and colleges.
